I went searching for good resources for teaching kids how to code because I’m still thinking about whether I (and anyone who wants to help!) could do something about my idea of using libraries to teach kids to code and almost lost myself in a downloading/tutorial playing vortex! There’s some great stuff out there and I’m definately going to be spending a fair bit of time playing with a few of them myself.
- Small Basic
- Storytelling Alice and Alice
- Scratch
- App Inventor (Android) – This one is still in closed beta unfortunately but I have access to it already and it’s great. I spent a lot of time last year creating ridiculous test apps and have plans for less ridiculous/more useful apps in the future.
Once I’ve experimented some more with the above, I’ll try do a proper write up for each one but I would really recommend having a go yourself, especially if you’ve never tried to program before but are interested.

Thanks for this! These links are actually super useful for something I’m planning at work.
You’re more than welcome! Hooray! What’re you planning, eh?
Brilliant idea! That sounds like an excellent use of libraries and librarians : )
