Who:
My name is not actually Barbara Gordon but I will answer to it when called. It’s really Meghan Jones.
In no particular order, I am a blogger, a social network user, a (possibly more discerning than your average avian) magpie for web 2.0 shinies, a computer geek and a librarian in general with my chosen specialisation being law. I hold a BSc. in Web Content Management and I’m currently in the middle of my MSc. in Library and Information Studies. I’ve been blogging in some form or another since approximately 1999 and previously blogged semi-anonymously as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl in the legal blog circles. I still work in and around the legal sector in London while studying.
My Namesake:
Batgirl was a librarian - Barbara Gordon, formerly Batgirl and currently Oracle, holds a MLIS and used her librarian skills as part of her Batgirl arsenal. After retiring as Batgirl, Barbara was paralysed from the waist down by the Joker, (see: Batman: Killing Joke by Alan Moore) due to her civilian identity as Police Commissioner Gordon’s daughter.
Barbara was brought back to the forefront of the Batclan though as Oracle, DC’s premier information broker/professional. She uses both her experience as an active vigilante and a librarian to provide information and services to the superhero community as well as kicking ass and managing a superhero team called Birds of Prey herself. What You’ll Find Here:
Mostly, I plan to use this blog to talk about things I come across while either skulking around the internet or during my degree and how they could be applied to my chosen profession. These’ll probably run the gauntlet of web 2.0, social networking, legal information, general shiny things and stuff that doesn’t really fit in any of those categories, like Lolcats and other memes because who can resist those?
